Sweet Is Not The Best Choice For Our Health
Gaining control over our inconspicuous addiction to sugar is the most important first step in regaining and maintaining health. Its grip on our way of life has taken us to this point when we need to release its hold. Unchaining ourself from the false comfort dependency on this substance to bring us comfort, is the beginning of our journey back to wholesome and wellness.
The evidence keeps mounting on the dangers associated with consistently consuming too much sugar. Its role in numerous diseases is becoming established now. Many of the dis-eases related to sugar we see today are preventable, reversible, and deadly. We need to make healthy food choices every day.
Luckily for many people, type 2 diabetes is only a wake-up call, in that there’s opportunity to reverse this condition by making a few lifestyle adjustments. What’s usually required is a change of diet and an increase in physical activity. Eating wholesome natural fresh foods packed with nutrition, not processed and packaged products full of sugar under many guises, and other harmful substances is a big step towards better health for anyone who is sick.
The link has been made between sugar and the proliferation of cancer cells. Although avoiding sugar doesn’t guarantee a life without cancer, the evidence is clear for those who are living with this disease—it’s best to stay away from sugar.
For anyone who hasn’t read my book, or know, what started out as a simple “Say No To Sugar” article grew to the publishing of “Reflection of Selection.” I might’ve come on a bit strong on this subject, but it seems I had good reason.
Without consideration of the natural sugar content of some foods, many people on a typical Western diet, unknowingly consume over ¼ cup of sugar at breakfast alone.
We need to stay aware and on top of how much sugar we’re consuming on a daily basis. When we’re young and healthy, our body is able to manage the extra loads of sugar we ingest, but as we get older, it becomes taxing on all our body’s systems. We weren’t designed to process the exorbitant amounts of sugar we consume nowadays. Added sugar keeps people wanting more, and this is exactly why it’s been put into almost all prepared foods.
There is much that’s in our control when it comes to preventing illness, and it all starts with making healthy food choices.
Once we learn to say “no” to refined sugar, and we start feeling the difference on how our body responds without the excess carbohydrates, it becomes easier for us to resist its temptation. The good news is, we don’t have to give up sugar entirely or altogether forever. The physical body recovers well when it’s fed what it can use and will rebound to vibrancy quickly.
Any deviation from consuming natural sources of sugar for refined sugar will be felt once the body has been weaned off of too much of it. It’ll be accustomed to functioning well without all the added sugar. This helps keep our sweet tooth under control, and that’s a good thing.
After we’ve abstained from eating too much sugar and reduced the stress on our body’s digestive system, we’ll get better control of our weight as well. This is good news for those who are trying to maintain a healthy weight. We’ll be able to partake in the pleasures of the palate confidently, without guilt and shame, knowing it won’t cost us any added body weight since our body is now able to process the occasional indulgence.
